Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me.

Frankenstein Place is getting closer with the announcement of the Australian Rocky Horror Show cast this morning. And it certainly lives up to the claims of producers Howard Panter and John Frost that they have a ‘fresh, exciting and talented cast of Australia’s best musical theatre performers’.

As previously announced, the role of the ‘Sweet Transvestite’ – Dr. Frank-N-Furter – will be played by Craig McLachlan straight out of filming the second season of ABC’s popular The Doctor Blake Mysteries. While he does have experience portraying a Doctor, I somehow think this one will be a bit different!

Joining Craig McLachlan in the roles of naïve, young engaged couple Brad and Janet will be Tim Maddren (Hi5 and The Addams Family) and Australian musical theatre heartthrob Christie Whelan-Browne (A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Singin’ in the Rain, Shane Warne the Musical).

Kristian Lavercombe will be playing Riff Raff, Frank’s loyal butler and leader of the ‘Time Warp’, jumping straight into the role after performing it throughout the New Zealand and UK tours. And joining him as his sister, Magenta, will be the skipping-superstar Erika Heynatz.

Could we invent a new skipping scene for Rocky Horror just to watch Erika Heynatz’s crazy fitness skills again?

Rounding out this phenomenally talented cast will be Ashlea Pike as Columbia, Nicholas Christo as Eddie/Dr. Scott, Vincent Hooper, Luigi Lucente, Meghan O’Shea and Angela Scundi as the four phantoms while the Swing/Dance Captain will be James Maxfield. And of course, in the rather scantily-clad role of Rocky will be Brendan Irving.

It seems that producers’ Howard Panter and John Frost truly have found their ‘perfect’ cast for the 40th Anniversary Australian Tour of the Rocky Horror Show.
