Storming the Barricade

The French revolutionaries are returning to Melbourne once again with the cast of the all-new Australian production of Les Misérables announced this afternoon.

Starring in the iconic role of Jean Valjean is musical theatre star Simon Gleeson (Mamma Mia, Love Never Dies, Chess) who has performed to great acclaim across Australia and the UK earning himself a Sydney Theatre Award, a Green Room Award and nominations for two Helpmann Awards.

Right on his tale as his lifelong antagonist, Javert, will be Hayden Tee (Being Earnest, My Fair Lady) who has performed in many opera and musical theatre productions around the world – Even performing the role of Marius in the 20th Anniversary West End production of Les Misérables.

Joining these two famous characters will be:

  • Patrice Tipoki (The Lion King, Wicked) as Fantine
  • Lara Mulcahy (Strictly Ballroom, Mamma Mia) as Madame Thénardier
  • Trevor Ashley (Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, Hairspray) as Monsieur Thénardier
  • Kerrie Anne Greenland  making her debut as Eponine
  • Emily Langridge as Cosette
  • Chris Durling (Jersey Boys, Grease) as Enjolras
  • Euan Doidge (Legally Blonde, A Chorus Line, Grease) as Marius

After being introduced, the audience was treated to a medley of songs from the show featuring On My Own and I Dreamed A Dream which was then followed by the entire ensemble performing the Les Misérables classic, One Day More. And they sounded outstanding!
