When Bigger is Better!

There are some shows that don’t need any introduction. For example, this year’s seasons of Australian seasons of Wicked, Les Miserables and The Lion King. Their names just need to be mentioned and people are already logging onto Ticketek or Ticketmaster. But when you have a new show, an introduction is necessary – and no one does it quite as big as Baz Luhrmann!

The Sydney opening of Baz Luhrmann and Global Creature’s Strictly Ballroom is less than two months away and the musical has made headlines over the last couple of months with some very strategic publicity events.

The announcement of a new musical version of Australian-classic Strictly Ballroom headed by internationally-renowned Australian director, Baz Luhrmann. Open auditions in Melbourne and Sydney to discover the female lead. The announcement of Thomas Lacey playing the role of Scott. And there is going to be one more big news story this weekend to add to that list!

This Sunday, Sydney will be announcing the arrival of the hotly-anticipated musical with a HUGE event in the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House.

Under the creative direction of Baz Luhrmann, the Sydney Opera House forecourt will host the biggest ballroom dance-off of all time. With 4,000 ballroom dancers starring in the event, the display will culminate in an aerial photograph of thousands of dancers outside one of the most spectacular buildings in the world. And after his world-wide success with The Great Gatsby, Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge, if this enormous event doesn’t capture international coverage then I don’t know what will!

So keep your eyes peeled on the news as Strictly Ballroom is welcomed to Sydney in style this Sunday. Because an event of this magnitude is sure to gain attention right around the world!
