Kicking off the year with their 50th production, The Production Company will be bringing new life into the Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein classic, West Side Story. This famous show was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and originally set on the site of New York’s Lincoln Centre (before it became an impressive concert hall). This cast will feature Anna O’Byrne in her return from great success on the West End and Production Company favourite Gareth Keegan as the star-crossed lovers Maria and Tony. Alongside this pair will be Deone Zanotto as Anita and Adam Fiorentino as Bernardo who both have an impressive line-up of international credits on the West End and Broadway.

The second show of the year will be the Australian premiere of a rather recent Broadway hit. Nice Work If You Can Get It premiered on Broadway in 2012 and takes the audience back to the bubbling 1920s with extravagant dance numbers and sparkly costumes. Featuring gangsters, glamour and Gershwin songs, this show is sure to big as successful as it was on the Great White Way! This production will feature The Production Company leading man Rohan Browne who is currently performing in Strictly Ballroom and the star of King Kong the Musical (no, it’s not the monkey), Esther Hannaford. Christie Whelan-Browne will star alongside this dynamic duo as Eileen Evergreen, the self-proclaimed finest interpreter of modern dance in the world.

Rounding out the year will be a slightly different production. Jerry’s Girls is a show created to showcase the leading ladies of Jerry Herman’s famous shows. Featuring numbers from Hello Dolly!, Mame, La Cage Aux Folles and Mack and Mabel, this all-star cast is sure to blow the roof off the Playhouse at Arts Centre Melbourne. Currently only five of the leading ladies have been announced with another few still to come including Rhonda Burchmore, Nancye Hayes, Silvie Paladino, Christie Whelan-Browne and Kirby Burgess – who is currently leading Dirty Dancing.

A fantastic line-up of shows. And a fantastic line-up of stars. This year is going to be a sure-fire hit for The Production Company, so you had better get your tickets quickly!
