This is the Moment!
Jekyll & Hyde was a massive Broadway hit back at the end of the nineties running for four years and returning musical theatre to the gothic romance of Phantom of the Opera. And it has finally made it to Australia helmed by Opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes alongside Jemma Rix and Lucy Maunder!
This morning, John Frost and Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terrancini announced the stellar cast of Jekyll & Hyde premiering at the Princess Theatre later this year. Teddy Tahu Rhodes will take on the difficult task of portraying the two male leads Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde after entering the musical theatre world with South Pacific and The King and I.
Jemma Rix, who has been defying gravity for nearly 1200 shows starring as Elphaba in Wicked, will be portraying Lucy, the star of the Red Rat brothel’s burlesque show who finds herself dangerously involved with both the doctor and his alter-ego. Alongside Lucy Maunder, who has just finished her Helpmann Award nominated run as Rizzo in Grease, playing Jekyll’s fiancée Emma Carew.
Joining this stellar Australian line-up will be Keala Settle (Les Miserables on Broadway) as Nellie, Barry Langrishe as Danvers, Jennifer Vuletic as Lady Beaconsfield and Philip Dodd as Spider and Poole. The ensemble will include Annie Aitken, Bianca Baykara, Damien Bermingham, Andrew Broadbent, Tony Farrell, Courtney Glass, Georgina Hopson, Joe Kosky, Andrew Kroenert, Adam Lyon, Noni McCallum, Adele Parkinson, Chris Scalzo, Karla Tonkich, Dean Vince and Sophie Wright.
The Melbourne season will run from the 8th December for a strictly limited season before moving to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.jekyll.com.au
